Campaign against Quebec City plant closure

Campaign Against Quebec City Plant Closure / Letter

Brothers and Sisters:

The union has begun a campaign to stop the closure of the Quebec City postal plant. This closure will eliminate jobs and deteriorate service to the public, and we believe that it is just the beginning of a new era of attacks on postal workers.

Enclosed you will find the following:

·the latest bulletin on the closure
·a petition for postal workers and members of the public to sign

The Quebec region is collecting the petitions for presentation to Parliament when it convenes in Ottawa in the fall. Please send the completed petitions to the Quebec regional office by September 14. Be sure to send the original petitions, and send them by mail (NOT fax).

Note: If you are in Quebec you will already have the Quebec version of the petition.

Thistle Printing in Toronto will mail your local the following:

·post cards
·posters

Your local will get both post cards and posters, but they might be packaged separately.

The post cards are for members to sign with messages to Moya Greene. Locals should collect the postcards and send them to national office. The posters are for you to use to raise awareness about the closure wherever you can. They look great on picket signs! If you need more post cards or posters, contact your region or the national office.

In closing I should mention that the union is also campaigning more generally against post office closures, deregulation and privatization - and for a strong public post office. These are not separate campaigns; it's just that the Quebec closure is our priority right now.

In solidarity,

George Floresco
3rd National Vice-President
