Campaign Against Quebec City Plant Closure / Letter

January 27, 2006

Josée Verner
Member of Parliament
Comté Louis-St-Laurent

Dear Ms. Verner:

Congratulations on your election as member of Parliament for Louis-Saint-Laurent. It was certainly a very decisive victory.

I think it would be fair to say that many voters responded to your strong stand on local issues such as your solid support for a review of Canada Post's decision to close the mail processing plant in Quebec City. Your work on this important issue gave postal workers and the people of Quebec City hope for the future of public postal service and jobs in their community.

I know that you will be very busy in the coming months, but I am hoping you will be able to find some time in the next few weeks to meet with representatives from CUPW ‘s national office, regional office and Quebec City. Unfortunately, we do not have much time before Canada Post takes major steps to close the plant in Quebec City.

As you know, the corporation initiated the first phase of the closure in December 2005. Management is currently working towards the most significant phase of the closure. This phase involves dismantling major parts of the plant and cutting 105 positions as of July 2006.

We thank you in advance for considering our request. I will call you in the near future to discuss the possibility of a meeting.

Yours truly,

Deborah Bourque
